Wise Beyond His Years

Now that Ryan is 5, I have to remind myself that he can pour his own juice, find his own shoes, etc. But it still feels a little strange not doing everything for him. Yesterday during a particularly long stretch of, I-can-do-it-myself-moms, I jokingly said, "You just don't need me anymore." Without missing a beat he said, "We need you, Mom, because we love you. We just don't need you to do stuff for us anymore." Sniff. Sniff. I think I understand now why my mom still does my laundry when I visit her.

  1. Wow ... makes perfect sense and it took a sweet, wonderful five-year-old to make it perfectly clear!
